Playa de los Genoveses does not need much of an introduction because it is probably the most well known beach in Cabo de Gata. It is about 1 mile of good sand with a few small rocky headlands at the southern end seperating out a few small sheltered coves off the main beach. On calm days either end of the beach is good for snorkelling, and on windier days, bring your body boards for some white water fun. There is now (2008) only a single carpark set back from the center of the beach. Last year various tracks that lead down from the road were often used as parking. Another noticable differenc ethis year, is that the hippies are all gone. They used to occupy the northern end of the beach under the trees but clearly the park rangers must have moved then on. This beach is also a 20 minute walk from San Jose. You can pick up the path at the Windmill. There is also a longer path around the headland from San Jose which will take about 35mins. The southern coves are frequented by nudists, and there are normally a few more at the northern end too. The busy part of the beach is the central area the shortest walk from the car park, either end of the beach is normally a lot quieter. On weekends and festival days in the summer expect the car park to be full by 11am or earlier.
