My senior year in high school, our drum instructor, Chris Moss was tour manager of the Cadets drum corps and did not make it back in time to write or teach. I had been writing music since 7th grade and my band director, Chic Mitchell approached me that summer about writing the book and teaching it. I gladly accepted, knowing we were going to do "Shine as the Light" by Peter Graham oh the field, which we had done in concert the previous year. I was excited. This video is of our last competition in Foley, AL. Special thanks to Chic Mitchell and Chris Moss for allowing me the opportunity and having the trust in me to do this. Also thanks to the 03 line, Billy (senior snare), Rusty (freshman snare), Matt Bauer (8th grade tenors), Matt Sifford (8th grade top bass), Matt Carr aka Pee-wee (7th grade 2nd bass), Michael (7th grade 3rd bass), and Pete (freshman bottom bass) for being humble and allowing a fellow student to teach and lead the line. You guys rock!

  • the bass tuning sounds odd

  • Yes, the actual bass drums themselves were awful old and rugged. I mean, I tuned them the best I could, but they still sounded awful. Tenors were pretty bad as well. They were just low. We got new drums the next year... after I graduated lol. That's how it goes sometimes.

  • Oh man! Thanks for posting this, Paul! I get goosebumps just from watching this. Those were the good days. Now if I can only find a video of the concert version, that would be a perfect combo!
