Beau The Mountain Cur at 11 weeks growing like a weed. I still say he's got some Beagle in his blood.

  • Where did you get him? He's a cutie. :-)

  • Hi

We got him at Castle Hill Mountain Curs in MO.

  • Great video! Beau's a good looking dog. He reminds me of my Cur's oldest brother. Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks! He's a handful!

  • Because they're not "mutt's of unknown origin". I'd suggest you do some google searching and learn a bit about the breed.

  • The various Cur breeds are named such because they originally *weren't* a distinct breed, and really were an amalgamation of various hunting/farm dogs.

But then, basically all dog breeds start off that way, so. Like Kooky says, Cur breeds are relatively new.

All that said... there's a lot of benefit to breeds of not-so-distant mixed heritage, like the Curs -- they typically have more robust "hybrid" characteristics. They're healthier and live longer, and are often more intelligent.

  • I think your right bout having a lil beagle in him because of his ears, And he is a beautiful pup.

  • i was lookin for a dog earlier today and came across a couple of week old mountain cur/lab mix puppies. im probobly going back there tomorrow to grab one. how do you like your pup?

  • yeah thats correct im eleven weeks today.

  • the mountain curr is mainly a squirrel dog my neighbor owns 2 and there some treein machines

  • hi daddy im the one talking

  • Have good luck on making him tree, hell be a great cur

  • Hi delightracardeanne,

Buckeye67 has it nailed down with this breed. Just like the Doberman did in its beginnings, this dog is the result of breed refinement. Its a new breed. And man, they have energy to spare!

  • Mtn curs make really predator hunting dogs. They'll tree a mountain lions, bears, fox, cayotes, bobcats if given a chance.

  • Mountain Curs are recognized by the UKC as a distinct breed. As far as the AKC is concerned, it is my understanding (from what I've been told) that they won't recognize the breed due to the name including the word "Cur". I don't know how true that is or not, but that's my understanding. There are also Black-Mouth Curs and Leopard Curs - and the Plott Hound which is AKC recognized, at one point was known as the "Plott Cur". So there ya go. :p
