oh, HOW sad...first, the mike audio was faulty at beginning of terry's number. then, even worse, her voice gave out at the end!

I know, my heart went out to her on this performance. She couldn't help the mic problem at the beginning and she had been in the hospital just 2 weeks prior to this performance with the flu...I'm sure her voice wasn't in the best of form, but she was radiant nonetheless.

our 'miss wv' 1979, debbie davis, made it to top 10 'miss america.' (a real rarity for wv)

anyway, for her talent portion, she sang a medley of terry's 'he touched me'/'maybe this time'...it was a REAL disaster...

I remember this the year it aired, and I think she covered and recovered very well and quickly toward the end, still a very strong performance! Love her tone.

Respond to this video... She could have saved the performance without trying the "He Touched Me" ending!

@victortalkingmch  I suppose it was a mini-miracle she could even appear on the show a mere week after having been hospitalized in Hawaii for pneumonia, let alone sing!

i remember when this was aired, i couldn't be home...think D-I-V-O-R-C-E... had to spend weekend at dad's instead...grandma and uncle were watching... i bragged that this girl could REALLY sing. what they heard was this microphone glitch...laughter from them, and later when terry's voice gives out...more laughter from them. they hadn't heard her sing the year before to compare . . .

could the microphone thing have possibly been a sabotage from someone feeling she shouldn't have won the previous year since she was already a professional singer? this bad thought just entered my thinking.
