I cut the resonator muffler off yesterday, the stock resonator was robbing the fuel mileage and horsepower, because it was heavy from the moisture that had become water in it and also had lots of suit in the bottom, i replaced the stock resonator with an 18" 2-1/2" Diameter strait pipe, a 2-1/2" exhaust clamp, and a 8-1/2" long resonated stainless steel exhaust tip, the upgrade cost around $25 with tax, if your looking for a way to increase horsepower and fuel mileage, this is one of the cheapest ways that you can do it. At first the motor will run a little rich on fuel and will decrease the fuel mileage, but after the first tank or so it will re program itself to burn more efficiency, increasing horsepower and fuel mileage.

Parts List:

Store: Walmart Round Slant Resonated Stainless Steel Exhaust Tip Inlet: 2-3/4" Outlet: 3-1/2" Length: 8-1/2" $12.96

Store: Advance Auto 18" Long 2-1/2" Diameter Exhaust Pipe $7.98 Exhaust Clamp 2-1/2" $2.48

Total Cost: $23.42

Total Cost W/ Tax: $25.18

  • Hey PeteI hava 2005 TB any info about the Chip upgrade for the 4.2 vortec? Are they worth the money or a gimack?Let me know what ya think.

  • well, I'm not too sure to be honest, my mom wont put one in her trailblazer, but from what Ive seen in a few of the people i knows trailblazer their defiantly worth it as far as if your looking for power, and of course more power = not having to push the gas pedal as hard making your fuel economy better if that's what your looking for, however if your looking for performance too, then i would get one, its all in the amount of money your willing to spend as to how much power you get for your $

  • hey i have been thinking about doing this to my 4.2L I6 2003 Trailblazer and i was just wondering did you pass the EPA testing?

  • Florida doesn't have it, but u should, cause all that is, is a quieter, not an emissions control, ur emissions control is in you catalytic converter.

  • lol, a resonator (basically something to change the sound of the exhaust as it comes out past the muffler) doesn't do anything to horsepower, or fuel mileage

  • @boaterbil haha my thoughts exactly

  • this upgrade would be much better with a turbo muffler upgrade as well, the stock muffler is also heavy and collects moisture, not to mention is restrictive so deleting the resonator and replacing the muffler really helps

i took the resonator off a Trailblazer my neighbor has and used it on an old D150 work truck, sounded awesome with no cat and a 225 slant 6 under the hood

  • @ali441992 your backpressure changed.taking out the resonator doesnt do anything but kind of improve sound.you have to change headers and whole exhaust system to get more hp and more mpg

  • i took the resonatorr of,but the sound stayed the same,no change, whhy is the?btw the rpm fell to 600 ronds a minute when putting it on N!!!

  • Hey im considering doing this to my chevy trailblazer as well. where did you order your parts from?

  • what color was the suit?

  • I see a lot of people saying that they don't get good gas mileage on their TB's. I was getting 20mpg then it dropped down to 18 a couple weeks ago after my wife over-heated it. 3 & 4 cylinders were getting water (blown head gasket) I have the motor out and head being machined now. I'm going to be building an aluminum intake for mine. I have a vendor getting me the aluminum plate for the build. It's nice to have vendors, all the stuff is free.

  • You helped me do this to my own.!

  • For about 20 bucks more you could have had it welded on.
