a look inside a 2 stroke stihl piston motor. The piston measure 52mm, so I think the saw is actually an 051 and not 076 like the badge says...doh!

  • is this how much play there should be on the crankshaft? Just asking cause I am taking my saw apart right now..

  • yeah, as long as all of the needles are there the side to side play is OK.

  • there should be side to side, but not up and down or that means your crank bearing is gone

  • Piston is junk as is the case. Go get a new saw

  • Look that the side of the crank case!!!! Do you see a big gapping hole!!!

  • Those italian bastards are making chainsaws with block and covers in two HUGE alumium pieces verticaly screwed together and with non-removable clutch inner piece! Hours with angle grinder, smoke and fire and it´s ready for action in chainsaw bike!

  • if the bearings or needle cage are messed up you pretty much have to just buy the whole crankshaft. for most models the stihl crankshafts can't be pressed out. done it for a couple customers here.

  • i think you have to remove the engine from the case

    after you take out the bottom for screws an the engine pops out those bolt should just knock right out

  • does anybody know how to strip down and repair the tanaka top handle ECS-3301 chainsaw thank's :)

  • Does anyone know how to back out that large (8mm) bolt that holds the engine to the saw body from the blade/clutch side? It appears to be one of the two bolts that also holds the chain bar in place.

  • side to side play is ok ,like martrix says,but the up and down play must be almost 0.I repair ts400 every day,it's my life,i'm trying to make the mold of the crankcase,and then melt parts of the same machine(old ones)to fill the mold,after that I have to evaluate the material,and make something to give it the resistance that I need,nyc...
