We call this Smoke Screen (others may call it a Zero-Hitch Screen). Spread formation (2x2) and the defense only sent one DB to our left. The WR is supposed to take one hard step forward then two back and catch the ball behind the LOS. He actually catches the ball slightly beyond the LOS, but luckily the other WR hadn't engaged his block yet, so it was not offensive pass interference. He gets a good block and then outraces everyone to the endzone for an 80-yd TD vs Torrance Silver, 10-25-2008.

  • Yeah, there are a lot of names for it - smoke, hitch, zero-hitch, quick, and even bubble (although I think this in an incorrect usage of that term). I heard the fan say, "O'Neal" as well, but we had no one named O'Neal on our team - maybe he was yelling to a defender?

  • Haha, great play, always seems to get you a first down or more.

  • We refer to that as a Quick Screen. Nice job O'Neal? (audio) LOL
