Governor Rick Perry attacked Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison throughout the Republican primary for, as the Dallas Morning News wrote, voting for the initial $700 billion bailout pushed by the Bush administration. The legislation received the support of both of Texas Republican Senators, Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn. Perry repeatedly criticized Hutchisons vote in television ads, web ads, and campaign appearances, challenging her spend-it-all, spend-it-now mentality.

However, Perry himself actually wrote a letter of support for the same legislation. As reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:

"Texas Gov. Rick Perry, chairman of the Republican Governors Association and West Virgnia Gov. Joe Manchin, chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, released a joint letter to leadership of the House and Senate, asking lawmakers to approve the bailout package."

Heres the letter:

As leaders of our respective organizations, we dont always see eye to eye on policy, but we come together today with one clear purpose. We strongly urge Congress to leave partisanship at the door and pass an economic recovery package. We both believe that its time to stand together for our country.
