Here comes the change Obama promised. :/

I agree, its never good, but perhaps the motive is to train the troops for checkpoint duty in the mid-east perhaps? I mean, that is a belief coming from a man who doesn't believe the military is out to harm american citizens.

@Alexn1067 The military has a huge problem of DUI related deaths, the Military police have done a terrible job of controlling it. It makes sense they would reach out for training. Those who think this is some form of preparation for marital law need to understand that no one thinks our military could sustain any sort of armed crack down is living a fantasy.

What ever happened to Posse Comitatus?

Because they're paid to?

Why do the mainstream news organisations keep ignoring stories like this?

Militarization of law enforcement will always bring on tyranny, and fascism.

Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.

Thats a load of crap, I live near an Army post and when they get arrested locally, the post provost or the soldiers co goes down and gets them and if they dont show up for thier court date, they go get them and take them in. The soldiers are subject to the same law as civilians when the yare off post, and subject to further ramifications on post for getting arrested.
Note # 1
"Easier and Cheaper for military police to come to the local jail and take custody of soldiers"
Not sure if you knew this, but we MARINES get paid the same whether we work 110 hours a week or 0 hours a week.
Note # 2
I do agree that DUI checkpoints are an infringement on civil liberties
Note #3
To say that civilian will be killed at checkpoints by Marines in the U.S.... well that's just insane.. but I will continue to serve for your rights to say such things..

Insane? Don't be so sure. Let me ask you this: if your commander gave you a direct order to shoot peaceful US protesters, would you follow it?
Look up the events that happened at Kent State in 1970. National Guardsmen fired on peaceful demonstrators, and the truth didn't come out for more than 35 years. (A sound recording of the order to fire was discovered.)
After the shooting, President Nixon referred to the dead college kids as "bums."
