This is from the 1934 film 'Those were the days'. According to the Internet Movie Data Base the singer is G H Elliot although some people seem to doubt it. The song was written in 1898 by British songwriter Leslie Stuart. It was a favorite song of the Music Halls and was performed by both Eugene Stratton and G H Elliot.

  • @TheHoplites Try the on/line copy , Classic radio comedy This is really GH Elliott {Lily of Laguna]. Magic Stuff. I saw him at the Metropolitan music hall in the Edgware Rd London W.2. The colour of the numbers indicating the acts in order of appearance & the general backdrops were magical,We sat in the gods[ ,top balcony ] Actually they were wooden steps, not seats, Dad spent most of the evening in the bar,me & mum watched the acts. I also saw Old Mother Riley [Arthur Lucan] Great times

  • I have the G H Elliott, 9 inch 78 rpm record & this is not him. still nice though. The Elliott is on the old Broadcast label & is a magic recording. On the same label I have just played on my Columbia Grafonola wind up, Val LaytonTip toe thro the tulips with me.this on 7 inch 78. One of these days I will find out how to post on line.G H Elliott had an additional stage name but would not be right to say it in this day & age. I am sure I saw Him at the old metropolitan music hall. I was very young.
