Casey Viator shows the full ROM (range of motion) on a classic Nautilus Pullover Machine. This exercise isolates the latissimus dorsi muscle. The Pullover was the first full ROM exercise device invented by Arthur Jones. Not only did he find the necessity of isolation and adjustable resistance for propper training of each muscle. Jones also defined the principles of HIT, high intensity training: Effective strengthtraining must be brief, intense and infrequent.

  • @andycf87 I've used a machine like this (both made by Nautilus and another manufacturer), and can vouch for the fact that the shoulder joint is not as stressed as it may first appear. The machine is constructed in a way that effectively isolates the back muscles; though the shoulders have to move through a wide arc, they support very little of the weight being moved.

  • Dear Altratronic, I haven't read the book Training For Mass but in reviewing the book's index I found no mention of Nautilus equipment which leads me to believe the author either doesn't understand full-range exercise or doesn't endorse it. A few conventional exercises can provide full-range resistance but they are the exception. I am not an enemy of the barbell but if you want maximum returns from your efforts you are much further ahead training on equipment that provides full-range resistance.

  • @MisterNautilus The HIT guys I'm aware of all say a full range of motion is important. You ever read Training for Mass (2nd edition)?

  • that range of motion looks dangerous to the shoulder joint... im all about full range of motion but i don't allow my clients to hyper-extend like that in their workouts..... lets not forget that we are not casey viator... he was a legitimate freak of nature

  • Dear CONSTINGACY, the size of you massive forearm and shoulder is in inverse proportion to the size of your brain. As Arthur Jones said, you don't have to be a genius to use his equipment properly but it helps if you're not an idiot!

  • @MisterNautilus What a load of crap My right forearm/ shoulder is massive from masturbation. And that is a small back and forth motion with minimal load. XD

  • does someone know where can i find casey`s routine from the 28 day experiment with arthur jones ??????

  • I first used the Nautilus Pulllover in 1977 and made great gains with the machine along with pulldowns, deadlfts, rows etc. probably the best nautilus machine ever made

  • The HIT crowd seems to forget or ignore the need for full-range exercise. Intensity of effort is important, perhaps the most important factor in getting good results from exercise but to get optimal results you need to use tools that provide full-range exercise

  • Wow what a monumental amount of flexibility! Casey the beast!
