In 1982 Sequential Circuits introduced the worlds first commercially available MIDI synthesizer; the Prophet 600. This noise maker was built for slasher films, prog-rock and is a riot to play.

  • hello ! I own a prophet 600 , have read the manual but still haven't understood how to dump the factory sounds , and make my own sounds " from scratch " .

Could anyone please help me with that ?

many many thanks in advance for any suggestion !

  • @alanwilder81

No problem, you don't "dump" the sounds. If you want to make your own just twist the knobs until you find the sound you're after. Then to save that sound press the record button and type in any number from 00-99. Whatever number you type in is where the new sound will be stored.

  • I am a singer-songwriter looking for a nice warm synth for the stage. I can't afford the prophet 08, and I really love the Juno 60 but it is just too heavy,

If I could I would take a wurlitzer piano with me, so I am looking for this kind of percussive bell sound... I also love to play with sinus wave sounds and I like to play with the filters (though you can always by external effects) I also think the yamahan dx7 isn't all bad for a digital synth. Any ideas are much appreciated!

  • If you're looking for a gigging synth then the Prophet 600 is not the best choice unless you like tweaking the tuning regularly.

  • how does this synth compare to the prophet 5?

  • The Prophet 5 has more balls and costs about 5 times as much.

  • nice ambient/kosmische vibe going on. nearly every synth demo on youtube is straight cheesy sounding fart nonsense. glad to finally see something reasonable.

  • the '08 is quite a bit more versatile and has does have more at the bass end. But this is a great synth too in quite a different way. Excellent at moody, washes of sound.

  • @UnchainTheNight1 The Prophet 600 is more stable because it's DCO. The frequency sweep in the poly mod section is accurate too. I've owned both :)

  • Anybody know where to download sound patches for the SCI Prophet 600 (sysex)... or anybody willing to share sounds?

  • I had the synth, I had to sell it for food. Im really sad about doing it.

  • Loved the haunting pad @ 3:20... The 600 sounds really moody, dark, emotional. Love it. I might just be able to get a non-functioning one for dirt-cheap. I think I would have lots of fun with it. How would you compare it to other synths?

  • @ludwigtrap

thanks for promptly replying mate !

i have been trying to twist the knobs , definitely ! I mean , i start from the " factory sounds " , which is the " preset " mode . Is that the right way ? Shall i switch the " preset " button off ? or just modify the factory sounds?

I don't even get closer to what i want , working on the awful stored sounds !!!!

  • hi i want buy one. Can i make with the Sequential Circuits Prophet 600 hard bass (reeses) sorry for my english

  • @ludwigtrap : how does it compare to like a JUNO or the POLYSIX?

  • @kinderspiel27 : If you'd just as soon have a wurli on stage then I suggest getting a midi keyboard and laptop or a good midi-sound-station (not sure of the technical name, but a box with sounds... Blofeld makes a great one for around 1000). If it's just you by yourself on stage... don't get an analog synth unless you're a synth junky. OR get an analog synth AND a good midi setup.
