Last summer was the second year I have seen them.
Does anyone know what kind of bird this is? I live on Long Island.

  • 1st-year (young) house finches. You can recognize youngsters by those two fluffy "horns" that adults don't have. Females look just like them, without the horns, and males have red or pink heads.

  • they are female house finchs. males look similiar but with red head and chest
