Game: GuimO
Creator: Jack in the Box Computing (now Southlogic Studios)
Year: 1997

Windows Version: http://www.sendspace.com/file/b5g7d9
DOS Version: http://www.sendspace.com/file/lnud1f

GuimO Fansite (Brazilian): http://www.guimo.cjb.net/

Alternate download, in case the above doesn't work: go to fansite, just click on "Jogo Completo" on the left, then the first link on the right.

Another obscure classic, and also one of my favourites. Travel through Bitland, a parallel world to Earth, in search of your nemesis Necterion. You must, however, defeat your foes, including some deadly bosses (multiple bosses in one stage!), using a wide array of destructive weaponry. The size of these levels reminds me of Turrican, they're enourmous.

GuimO was specifically developed by a brazilian company (see above) for DOS. The game managed to sell five thousand copies in Brazil and Europe (more of a know-how success than a financial one as you an see). The game is no longer on stores, and it's no longer in the reseller catalogue, though there are a few pirated versions on sale (SGNStarline being one of them).

It's no longer possible to play this game properly without Windows 95/98 with DOS, since the game speed is quite simple way too fast to be properly playable in today's computers (there were no FPS limiters at the time). However, Christian Lykawka, one of the game developers, created in 2005 a new, Windows-compatible version, which also includes a new graphical filter, and of course it plays properly. You can download it through the link I provided above. Alternatively you can use DOSBox to emulate the DOS version, which I recently added as well.

  • I really, really love this game, but I can't play it on my laptop =S The functionality is still there but the images freeze and I can't see anything. I have a Samsung RV411 motherboard. Any ideas?

  • @giusto1 Have you tried the DOS version instead? I've updated the description with the DOS version link. Use DOSBox to run it.

Alternatively contact pgleite on YouTube, he's responsible for the GuimO Fansite (link also above) and might figure out a way.

  • Where can I find the full SGNStarline version? It seems a bit more complete than the dos/winguimo versions

  • @Donanjin I never heard about such a version myself. Do you know what makes it more complete than the other two? I'll ask pgleite about it.

  • Link doesnt work.

Awesome vid btw, i loved this game :)

  • Thanks, fixed the link, hopefully permanently.

Meh, that's why I hate rapidshare, they always remove the files.

  • Thanks man for the vid. i played this when i was small and this brings up very good memories . thanx again

  • @DTurboKiller When I checked it's data folders, there's new music (final, credits) and a text document named version which says "Guimo Full Version 2.2". It's root folder has a mini-manual.

When starting up, it comes up with a "sgnstarline" title screen, the normal guimo startup screens, then it crashes on main menu (which I'm sure might have something to do with my pc, not the game itself).

Just add that onto the end of mediafire's main url
