This is a game that I play with my dogs to get voluntary eye contact. I start this in my house and then keep progressing to more challenging locations. This was Twix's first time playing this game in a more distracting environment. I have also worked on the settle at my feet a lot, so he is doing a great job at offering that. :)

Once the dog can give solid eye contact with you sitting, you can try standing, moving, etc...

Have a great day!

  • Is this a recent video, Twix looks smaller, or is that because he is in the great outdoors! He is such a cutie-love his markings!---Kathy with Liz/Breeze/Cricket

  • @bordergirlsmom No, it is really old. I think he was about 12 - 14 weeks in the video and he will be 6 months old on the 19th. Time sure flies. I have so many videos of when he was little that I have not edited. I am slowly getting to them. I figure that I will always have those memories and the videos might help someone. :)

  • @pamelamarxsen LOL! well, that makes sense I thoght he cant be shrinking, LOL! Must be fun to be editing and looking at videos of him when he was even smaller, I love looking back on what Cricket was like even a few monthsago!

  • @bordergirlsmom It really is fun looking back! He is a sweet dog! I am so happy to have him! I just love watching the stages border collies go through. Cricket is a beautiful dog!

  • do you like to have your dogs paying attention to you while they are in a settle? in kikopup's video she was giving treats for the dog just being calm and not looking at her, so i was just wondering if you have a different opinion on this and why? i think i would rather have my dog learn to pay attention to me in a settle, but i would love to hear what you think :]

  • @mustlovejumping Yes, when the dog is settling, I do not want them focused on the food, toy, or me, but when I am working on eye contact of course look at me. However, in this video, he was so used to settling that it took him a little while to realize that he was getting clicked for looking at me. :) When the dog is settling I want them to just relax and not worry about anything, but chilling out. :)
