Yes jazz has harder chords but alot of the scales overlap so the lead parts aren't too much harder than a bluegrass tune. Ever try to play "Smashville" like Ron Block? Its just as hard as a jazz tune!
Way harder I would imagine. Bluegrass tunes have typically pretty easy chord changes and are easy to improvise over. Jazz tunes are way harder to understand musically to interpret on a banjo.
