I have watched this video countless times as I spent some of the happiest moments of my life on the very spot she filmed from and this is the only one I've found taken from that spot. The irony of how she got just about every fact wrong has finally compelled me to make some corrections.
As noted, she spelled the country wrong and the area is called Arrecifes, not El Cabo-a mile or so east- which she also pronounced wrong. There ARE Kogi Indians living in those hills, but many days hike away.
Paradise Lost. Glad to see so many people enjoying the park, but thankful I got to spend time there when it was so wild and empty. If anyone wants more info on Tayrona and it's history, just ask me in a post. Back in the seventies the only one who lived near arrecifes-what the Cape was then called because it means reefs and there are many there-was a coconut farmer named Martinez. On the odd chance anyone reading this knows what became of him I;d love to read about it in a post here, please!
I spent many weeks on a palapa on top of the hill where this was filmed from in '71 and '72. I had at least 20 stays-week or more. I only encountered ANY others in the ENTIRE park on two occasions, both closer to the park entrance at Canaveral. We always had Arrecifes all to ourselves. There was no fee, It was truly a wilderness, and I spent the happiest moments of my life there. Thanks SO MUCH for this! Finally a view from top of the hill, one I'll never forget. Will post more about my trips.
