United Steelworkers President Leo W. Gerard, Allegheny Technologies CEO Patrick Hassey, and United States Steel Corp. COO John Goodish discuss how the union and the companies have worked hard to compete in a global market. They stress that we can compete with any company in the world. The problem we're competing with governments that unfairly subsidize their industries. Part of the solution is to enforce our existing trade laws and demand that any candidate running for office promise to do something about the unfair competition.

  • That was awesome! And like they were saying, the problem lies within our Government stiffling our corporation with red tape, and contracts that should go to American companies are going overseas. Something needs to be done in order for our nation to keep afloat.

  • Thanks for commenting. I try to buy American. I love this country, but it is sad to see how it rather have a country of homeless poor people then have a country with working class with their own products.

  • yeah i hear you until next week i was getting 0 hours a week but you need to persevere and continue to look hard and Be American and buy American

  • How when they keep shutting them down and sending them to China, Mexico, ect? I love to buy American, let alone anything. I can't really afford crap. I'm getting 17 hours a week. Can't buy nothing.

  • I noticed that the airlines, steel factories, tire and autombile factories seem to be always getting hit. Instead of cutting jobs, go after the people that do make the money, and do make the 50 hours. Don't go after the people that do need jobs to make ends meet. Go after people like Bill Gates. I mean don't make him poor, but at the same time, does he need billions of dollars?

  • Be American Buy American, especially United States Steel, Local 1557

  • One guy in this clip claims that it's the governments job to make sure the Steel Workers Union have a level playing field in the international market. That makes alot of sense. It would be a reasonable move for government agencies to invest money in American companies verse offering trade secrets and money to overseas companies who could cause potential threats. Plus when government agencies do this it only weakens the economic strength of the Steel Workers Union.

  • Making ammunition in America is not a solution for protecting jobs. More ammunition and weapons of war will kill potential workers and enable war.
