NNSA Administrator Tom D'Agostino toured the Savannah River Site and received updates on several ongoing projects there in late September 2009.

Nuclear Materials Management has two facilities designated for extended safe storage of plutonium at SRS; the K Area Material Storage (KAMS) facility, located in 105-K, and the 235-F facility. The 105-K building formerly housed K Reactor, which produced nuclear materials to support the United States during the Cold War for nearly four decades. It was the United States last operating production reactor, shutting down for the last time in 1992.
