  • New York to South Hampton 1957 Thank you.

  • 3:08 Looks like shes still sailing

  • Music sux!

  • A truly remarkable beauty of a ship. The America was extremely well built. Mile after mile of harsh, North Atlantic weather, not to mention the heavy duty stresses of war transport service......and she was still soldiering on into the late 80s. It's not a pretty site seeing a once great liner rusting away and ripped apart on a beach. But it's still better than watching her get cut to pieces in one of those filthy hell hole scrapyards in India. She went down with dignity after all.

  • It's a shame that they had to let the ship behind on the sea. It would be better if they didn't went into a storm. We only have the SS United States still in Philadelphia, crying for help.

Imagine the SS America standing next to SS United States as a floating hotel!

  • My father was assistant chief steward on the SS America and as such served the fast class cabins and dignitaries. The rich and famous of the US and Europe would cruise with her for her luxury accommodations and her speed, crusing at 35+ knots. She sailed the Atlantic and eventually served as a troop ship. When the ship was sold he signed on with the S.S. United States. It was rumored among the crew that during top secret sea trials the US hit 55 knots at full steam. It was built for speed.

  • My dad was on the S.S. America before America entered the war, and was on at least one of the trans Atlantic crossings either before or after the ship was renamed the USS West Point. He retired off the SS America when it was sold and worked the even faster SS United States, which he claimed could do 55 knots at full steam. But he really loved the America.

  • When I compare America & united states, I find America more beautiful & big u they call her, man she is one fuck up liner. I HATE that liner. I don't even think she's even a true Ocean Liner like America.
