These cars arent just souped up they have personality. Car artists use old cars and vans as their canvas, letting their imagination run wild. Theres the famous California Fantasy Van, which is covered with $15,000 worth of dollar coins and 5,000 brass objects. Theres the Camera Van, which is covered in 2,700 cameras. Artist Stephen Hooper, known as Hoop, started making art cars at his home in Clifton, NJ, but it wasnt until years later that he learned other artists were doing the same thing all across the country. Car artist and filmmaker Harron Blank, of Douglas, Ariz., explores Hoops Hoopmobiles and the urge to create art cars in his new documentary, Automorphosis, which is being screened as part of the Royal Flush Festival on Oct. 18 at the Anthology Film Archives in the East Village in New York City. The film also features New Jersey artist Tim McNally, of Upper Montclair, known for his Plaid Car. (Video by Nyier Abdou/The Star-Ledger)
