that's the neo-conservative, social conservative way though. cut taxes (dump responsibility onto the provinces), and spend like crazy....and enforce traditional social norms in the process.

Yes. That sort of authoritarian lawmaking is very socially conservative. I E: they are restricting peoples' social freedoms. They seem fiscally conservative in some ways such as lowering taxes, but they haven't much changed with regards to federal spending. You would probably recall the increased spending on the military and law enforcement over the last few years.

Social Conservatism in Canada represents positions on issues of family, sexuality and morality. Not supporting big brother and other forms of government spying. That's the Neo-conservatives.

Social conservatives whine about gay marriage and abortion. They're not out in force, calling for internet spying bills. The Neo-cons are. And like I wrote earlier, that's not true conservatism. It's fake and evil. More like Corporatism.
