Lucky Lady - If They Could See Me Now

This number was actually part of a medley. Blanche (me) did a verse; then two other characters did a duet; Blanche did another verse; the two characters did another duet; Blanche did the final verse; the two characters did another duet. I've cut out those other two characters' bits, and left just Blanche's bits.

I did the lyric rewrites and made my own costumes, including the "stole of sparkling fur". It was the director's idea that Blanche should have "stupidity-induced blindness" (i.e. she'd put on a pair of very dark sunglasses when she was a kid and had never taken them off). But when you're known for your expressive eyes, having to act behind a pair of dark glasses is a hell of a handicap! At least I was still surprisingly graceful, even carrying around that extra weight.
