In this video RISD president John Maeda narrates a visit to Philip Johnson's Glass House in New Canaan, CT. Maeda shares his impressions and talks about how it relates to his thoughts on simplicity. Meanwhile, we explore the site (there are actually several buildings on the property in addition to the Glass House), shot over a couple picture perfect spring days.

  • bad place to have sex

  • Its ironic how all these people that clearly think they are important, because they are in an expensive "trendy" building sipping alcoholic drinks out of trendy glasses, are talking about "simplicity" when they are the antithesis of real simplicity. For real simplicity, exquisite and wonderful simplicity you go to nature, to a grove of trees. Not the house of a self important millionaire whose livelihood crushes the poor who are not good enough because they're not yuppies.

  • looks like a bus stop.

  • What if there's a stalker in front of ur house.. he could follow you everywhere..

  • Nice... except for the floor... bricks ... grout lines too deep/uneven Just but join marble slabs maybe w/a feature stripe & run over it w/a terrazo machine... THEN perfect.

  • a heaven for thievs :)

  • 1. Don't have pet birds.

    2. I would feel like someone is constantly watching me.

  • It's all about Glass glass glass.

  • @Acennendlic Agreed. I'd like to see what the heating and cooling bills are for this house. I also noticed it has little thermal mass and does not seem to produce it's own power, hot water, and it also does not recycle water. What use is this beyond being a pretty glass box? I also doubt the glass is 6mm (which is the minimum advisable for tornado or hurricane winds and yet is still above building code).

  • Cool video!

  • @TheZeth24 For some. o.0

  • @MediaWatchDawg ...it's actually easier that paint ii if it was a wall and you can see trough. Much better in fact
