I must be the luckiest expat in Thailand, with the luckiest friends cos after 17 years here, 100 trips to Pattaya the worst thing that has happened to me is being charged for an extra bottle of water when I checked out of a hotel
I have 100+ friends living here that I have know for 1-17 years and I cannot think of one incident that was anything like you have described.
Yes, I am aware that these things happen, so what exactly are you and others doing to get yourself into this much trouble?

@soibeer You and your 100+ friends must get out more. 17 years of staying in is too long.

Fell for the jet ski scam in Koh Samui. There was bump which caused some very minor damage. The owner of the jet ski said I would have to pay 90,000 baht. I said "hell no" and called the tourist police, who weren't that helpful. I still ended up paying 50,000 baht. Looking back, the tourist police were probably in on it. Sure they took a cut.
Hard lesson learned but at least I was only hurt financially.

There are tons of SCAMS in Thailand. Even the police is in it. The WHOLE country is CORRUPTED!!! Everyone should stay away from Thailand for awhile until they get their system corrected. It's a beautiful place but majority of Thai people their are all about ripping people off to make money. Truly sad that those individual had made a bad image of their own country. Invest your money in a better country where the laws are fair to tourist and those who lives their. Obviously Thailand is no good.

I've heard of some people having occasional bad experiences in Thailand, but you and your brother got hit with an unprescedented shit storm. Sorry this happened. Thailand is one of my favorite places in the whole world, but there is indeed corruption about. For a falang, getting caught in the middle of something can cost you a pretty penny to get out of. Just be glad you can pay the "fine" and be done with it.

@soibeer i think they go for other reasons a n thats how they get caught up with criminals they want the drugs the sex then they get burned and they are like oh why me its like crackhead callin the cops cause they didnt get the money back or the dope

Pattaya, a charming place. Tourist ghettos are tourist ghettos, where-ever you go. But Pattaya is an even worse breed of hell.
Your conversions of Baht to dollar wildly vary :D

seems like if you go to Thailand, don't act if you've got much cash, thankyou for that post, if I go to Thailand I'll act like a backpacker, no jetskis, or staying in a nice hotel, you'd be a target. Thankyou that you posted this as a warning.
