the old ones use discrete resistor for each key, and of crappy tolerance, like 5% so they are all horibly out of tune. I have six old ones...try to harmonize them...forget it. That is what's so great about them though :)

Thanks a lot, that was helpful!

Nice performance! It sounds to me like you have your 'new' Stylophone on the second sound setting. (If I'm wrong, please correct me.) The first 2 settings are somewhat different and an octave lower than the third, which is the 'vintage sound'. I think a better comparison would be to use the third setting for the 'new' Stylophone. It sounds much closer to the 'old' one than the top Stylophone in your video.

The new one is the 1st one played (at the top of the screen). I should have identified which is which really.
Do you think it would be possible to modify the new one to sound like the original?

no because the originals used an analogue circuit whereas the new ones use a digital circuit. They just don't seem to sound alike. There are plenty of websites that have schematics of the original analogue circuit though if anyone fancied making one......

Thats an idea, buy a new one - gut it and fit analog circuitry.

that may work. Could be worth a try if you have the patience. If you try it, let me know how it goes.

I've just added annotations which hopefully should identify each one.
