Che bellissima voce!This is a wonderful rendition by one of the greatest light,lyric tenors of all time.What an exquisite line and beautiful phrasing and diction he had.And in my opinion,no one sang more beautiful mezza voce and pianissimi than Schipa.Bravo Tito e grazie mille!

Interpretazione finissima. Personalmente preferisco Franco Corelli, per il timbro di voce maschile, che nessun tenore finora ha eguagliato. Ma questa interpretazione è magistrale, comunque.

Bella, secondo me però Kraus la canta megli. Nella scalafinale c'è qualcosa che nn mi convince non avendo nozioni tecniche sufficienti non so co'è. Comunque complimenti all'"usignolo di Lecce".

@vinyltovideo So than the only thing we can hear Lanza in live with another singer is the Bowl 1947 and 48 concerts with Fran Yeend , too bad his one major opera where he sang in 1948 new orleans as Pinkerton was not recorded or anything from merry wives of windsor, in tanglewood (fenton) very strange it has not come up.

@SHICOFF1 Of course not; every recording ever did with more people than just Lanza was tape spliced. Kind of makes you wonder if his recordings were early multitask recording experiments.

Lanza's LM1837 Student prince from the 1953 studio rec. with Liz Doubleday WAS RE-ISSUED AS LSC 3216. ML and Liz Doubleday where not in the same Cities recording it she told me, one in NY and one in Calif. Later in the late 50's another recording of it was made by Lanza and Soprano Norma Gusti but I like the first one, 1953 issue better.

@vinyltovideo THANKS AS FAR AS DOUBLEDAY (BELOW) I MENTIONED SHE WAS IN THE ORIGINAL LANZA LM1837 STUDENT PRINCE. SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL RED HEAD AND I AM SURE SCHIPA THOUGHT SO AS I DID! WHEN I KNEW HER SHE LIVED IN BRENTWOOD CA. I BELIEVE SHE MAY BE PASSED AWAY NOW.

When I worked in radio in calif. i met his brother Carlo and was to his home, he always said with Schipa's good musical intelligence, if he had a voice to sing heavier roles like Gigli he would be the #1 of his time. Carlo felt he was not given his justice I thought but both Schipa and Carlo where very nice people. Schipa made Lunch for a lady friend of mine who sang, now dead. Liz Doubleday I went out with her once in Calif. and she said Schipa treated her to lunch at his home, he did cook !

@SHICOFF1 It was not a role he was really known for I think and never performed it at the Met. He did a few times at San Francisco in the 20s and 30s.
Wery beautyful voice.I must say though: If we tenors today sing a semitone lower with so short high notes like he does,we get a bad critic.( I sing a cadenza with a high C sharp.) Still WERY nice "mezza voce" and pianissimi. Kári Friðriksson. (karifrid)

Unfortunatly you're right. Today it's all about who can sing the loudest and highest.
