The surgery was for a SLAP tear repair on my right shoulder. The tear was a result of a bike accident and was aggravated by playing cricket and gym'ing. After procrastinating for a long time on whether to live with this shoulder and never play at all for the rest of my life or fix the damn shoulder, suffer for a few months and be done with it, I finally decided to go under the knife. This surgery was performed in Bangalore on 31st July 2010 and has been healing well since. The recovery period is pretty steep lasting for about 4 months but will be able to join back work in 2 weeks with restricted shoulder movements. The recovery involves wearing a sling for 1 month and shoulder exercises forwards and sideways with steady increments of 30 degrees each week. As of now, can move the shoulder up to 120 degrees and am already feeling the strength coming back to the shoulder in a month.

For those wondering the cost of this operation in India, its about $ 2500 with top class facilities performed by professional doctors. For any questions, please feel free to email me.

  • Are there any scars from the surgery?

  • @omers66 just 2 small incisions that were made, one for the camera and one for the tools to stitch the torn tissue....the scars are just small and not that ugly...but it gets better with time..it was a key hole surgery, so looks like a small cut on the skin

  • how did it turn out? I'm in a similar situation. Its been close to 3 years and I can do most things but it requires constant maintenance like rehab stuff, heat packs and tiger balm. I just dread the length of the recovery. But I've about had it and I think I'm gonna do it. I get a pinching in the front of my shoulder. Did you get that?

  • @chill2428 it turned out pretty ok.its been a year after my surgery now and i am using my shoulder for gym and cricket.for me, the pain was felt inside only when i exerted the shoulder like for throwing or using dumbells or playing racquet sports.the top of the shoulder had a pinching sensation but would disappear after the i give the shoulder a rest.now my shoulder feels as good as new and i dont regret going in for the surgery.the only irritating and painful part is the rehab period of 1 month

  • are you serious? it looks like nylon rope that they're using to anchor the tendon.
