Rep. George Miller on pension fairness: "It's a devastating picture when you meet your constituents who have lost their retirement, who have lost big chunks of their retirement and they come and talk to you at the shopping center, they talk to you in the grocery store, they talk to you in a town hall and they tell you what it means to their plans. We were all stunned as a nation when pensioners got their plans wiped out and devastated by Enron. We called those people criminals. Here we call them legislators. Because people are getting -- people are going to get a devastating hit on their pensions, and we're going to say it's the law."

Republican Rep. McKeon asks that Rep. Miller's words be stricken saying, "I would like to know for sure if he was calling us Criminals."

  • Yes I think he was, and I think he is right

  • Thats made me crack up!

  • Sorry, Mr. Congressman, but you ARE a criminal.

  • Since Congressmen, while they're in office, don't have to pay taxes, why should they give a crap about us and our taxes? Fuck these assholes and their $100,000k+/year pension plans and other bullshit they get for life, thanks to us. I wish that airplane had missed the Pentagon and smashed into the Capital building instead, right in the laps of these thieving, lying, worthless sons of bitches.

  • I made a mistake, Gary Miller Supports the Fairtax, not George Miller. To be more clear...I just want a simpler tax code that's transparent - it's not right now.

  • I support his FairTax cosponsoring. He's grandstanding, but he is proof that there is a difference between the parties. On the other hand, the republican congress did pass a pension protection act.

  • Well...bottom line it is going to take courage and hard cuts to make the program sustainable. I'm not exactly sure about the contents of this specific comment, but my advice to all legislators is, if you really care about taking care of American workers, stand up to the AARP lobby and take the decisions that will allow us to have a pension system in place by the time most people who use this site will need it.

  • Gee, I guess Republican's don't like people calling them criminals. Maybe they should stop enabling corporate criminal behaviour.

  • Way to kick ass George!
