This a short video clip of Lucy demonstrating a runway rhythm drill over low hurdles to the pit. This drill develops the ability to make minor adjustments to the body position during the approach run.
The second half of the video clip is a landing drill sequence. From a standing long jump to the inclusion of a low hurdle. This gives the jumper a feel of pushing the heels out so that they cut the sand first. You can experiment with hurdle height and positioning of the skipping rope in the sand pit.

Hi there,
In this drill the hurdles are approximately 8 mts apart. Sometimes they are placed at 6 mts and sometimes I place them alternatively 6 and 8mts. The main objective of the drill being to 'alter' rhythm under differing environmental conditions. It makes the jumper think along the whole length of the approach run. Jumpers have to be able to make minor changes in body positioning as they near the board when condition are against them [wind/rain etc].
All the best, Nigel
