Meet Mike, the guy in charge at NRE located in Dixmoor, IL. NRE is a company that does everything from scrapping, rebuilding, repairing, upgrading, and selling locomotives. In fact, they have their own design of Genset. Go to NRE on a weekday, and you'll be able to walk the grounds of the facility. If your lucky, Mike will give you a tour and let you in the shops. My video not only shows the equipment around the facility, but also the everyday work that is done here. Hear Mike talk about everything from what they do here to the problem of people sneaking in and stealing parts, especially valuble copper.

So take a look at what you see here. Many of these units are scheduled to be sent away or turned into scrap. Really an interesting place to see.

  • I'm sorry about how this video backfired on you.

  • Sad to see all those old locomotives without hope. I'm surprised they even let you in there.

What was the number of that F40C awaiting its end?

  • Mike is the Man behind the man, behind the man. Don't you forget it!

  • Thank you for the tour. I must of passed this place hunderds of times on I-57 (when I was still living with my parents). I never got the chance to see what this place is like. I did, however, meet an NRE employee on the Pace bus for a while. Again, I thank you.
