i play a 1989 gibson granada hearts and flowers banjo.
-
Wow thats very impressive that you can detune your strings and bring them back perfectly in pitch. Excellent!
-
do you take the B string up on this song? what do you tune high to?
-
really nice tone on the banjo.. very bright. nice picking too!
-

There are different kinds of "special tuners".
There are tuners you can buy that look like normal tuners but have a mechanism inside that can only allow them to tune so far up or down allowing you so change pitch like in the video without thinking about where to stop turning the tuner. Cost about $250
The cam is two extra pegs that go on the head that push against the strings or take pressure off them causing the strings to do the same. Cost about $150
Hope that helps!

I guess I'm still confused. I know that this song is played well by special tuners, but that's about it. I've never used them, or even seen them, I just wish I could get some. Say, do you have any idea how much those things cost?
-
It fits on the peg head itself and works by 2 extra keys.
-
What's the cam style?
-
So glad you liked it. Have you the cam style?
-
I forget the album but I think it was a live recording. He had the tuners but it slipped coming back to pitch.
-
What recording was that Earl did not have the tuners on his banjo when he recorded the orginal version.
-
That's a great song. I'd give it a try if I had those tuners.
Man, you are one fine banjo picker!
