Nick's POV
"You don't know how hard this is for me to tell you, Mi." I started, very hesitant.
She peeped her head up, raising her eyebrows. "Tell me!"
I bit my lip, moving the hair out of her face. "Last night.."
"Oh gosh," she said, shutting her eyes.
"Just.. listen to me." I sighed. "Well I had a bet with Selena that I coulld last the whole rest of the week without drinking Diet Coke & she couldn't eat her staple pickle diet," I started. I heard Miley's muffled laughter into my chest when I mentioned my half of the challenge and smiled, pulling her closer to me. "Honestly, I couldn't last for more than a few hours. And every night, I'd go down to the kitchen next door and drink Diet Coke. I guess she started thinking a like, and went down yesterday night to the kitchen and indulged herself in a pickle or two. But.. I caught her and basically the challenge was off."
"What does this have to do with what's wrong, Nick?" she asked, innocently, popping her head up.
I shushed her, gently pushing her head back down into my chest. "Well, I startled her when I caught her in the act of cheating and she dropped the jar, and the pickles and the glass jar fell to the ground. I helped her clean up, and honestly, we were still hungry after that. And the late night Diet Coke escapes wasn't that great for my stomach. We started baking and she collided with me, sending the eggs flying and landing on me. I had to get back at her, and threw what ever was closest to me. And that turned into a fight. We were so into the moment and were having so much fun.. that we just lost control."
"Lost control?" she whispered, not looking up.
I nodded, though she didn't see. I took a deep breath weakly. "Miley.."
She looked up, now a concerned look on her face. She looked like she was bracing herself for what I was about to reveal to her. I closed my eyes, ready to burst out with the truth.
"We.. kissed. But, it was purely a mistake. We were just.. I don't know. I mean she was just gone for so long, and I truly missed her. But that's no excuse for letting the kiss happen. When she left, months ago, it was like a part of our friendship disappeared. And having her back in my life, just made me feel complete again." I started, hoping she wouldn't take anything wrong. "We're only best friends." I assured her.
I looked up, opening my eyes after rambling that as fast as I could to get it over with. But I only saw Miley looking up at me, on the verge of tears. The tears brimmed at her eyes. "Miley, why are you crying? I'm so sorry. I /really/ didn't mean to kiss her."
"It's not that, it's just... I feel so incompetent compared to her. As if she's more important to you." she said, her voice cracking.
"It's not even like that, Mi," I said, assuring her. I caressed her cheek with my thumb, "She came into my life first, but you're the one who's the most important in my life /now/. I love you, and I need you as if my life depended on it." I said, smiling at her. "You are my oxygen."
"I'm sorry," she said
"Sorry? You? Why?" I said, baffled.
"For thinking that. And for any future mistakes and times I act stupid," she said, laughing.
I smiled, acknowledging the way she laughed. "I couldn't ask for anyone more understanding than you. Any other girl would've just left me and started spreading the rumors in a split second. Thank you." I said, kissing her forehead.

Selena's POV
I slightly smiled, listening in on the last half of the conversation between Miley and Nick as Taylor wrapped his arms around me and continued to talk to Demi and Joe like thirteen year old girls, gossiping.
"Hey, you okay? You look distracted," Taylor smiled, holding me tighter. I looked around and saw that Demi and Joe were gone.
"Well," I started. "I have something holding me inside. And I feel guilty if I don't tell you.."
He raised his eyebrow, "Like what?"
"Me.. and Nick," I started.
He narrowed his eyes to Nick in the room next door, and it looked as if his face was boiling. "What'd he do to you?"
"Nothing, nothing, Taylor. It was.. actually more on my part this time." I said, nervous.
"Selena," he started.
"Nick and I kissed," I blurted out. I covered my mouth. I didn't want him to blatantly tell him like that. "But it was by accident."
"What?" He said, speechless.
So how was I going to explain this to someone who hated my ex's guts?
