Satellite television has reached even conservative parts of the Arab world, where hundreds of programs are now available. The Middle Easts MBC-4 began airing The Oprah Winfrey Show more than four years ago, and the program now reaches about 6 million viewers in the Arab world each day.

Though aimed at an American audience, the program has brought formerly taboo topics — like reproduction or homosexuality — into discussion.
Worldfocus correspondent Kristen Gillespie reports from Jordan on the Oprah effect in the Middle East.

  • @helema23 The point I was trying to highlight was that extreme segregation of opposite sexes will have opposite effects.I live in a multi-religious society and noticed personally that male homosexuality is very much alive(more than among other religions) among Muslims.I just don't understand.I know that homosexuality is a sin in Islam. Then why people are so alert about opposite sex interaction and don't pay attention to male homosexuality which I think is a much greater sin.I am not Islam hater.

  • @tigerpoosha this is not true yes there are gays in the middle east but not as many as you are trying to portray. and the gays are men with men and women with women and they are so feew and far between that its not really a concern to most people in their areas. its just something they dont talk about.

  • its best to not air shows that show certain lifestyles in other countries. it doesnt just offend muslims to see such things on their tv but some non muslims are offended too. theres a difference between being offended because its not a thing to talk openly about and being offended because you hate the people in that lifestyle. you can dislike alifestyle without hateing the people in it. the woman that was offended has a right to be because they aired that show in a MUSLIM country!!

  • ...and Western TV has nothing to do with propaganda and mind control. Blech! No one should be watching Oprah and the likes especially if they want to learn how to live like real human beings...not drones.

  • who are all of you to judge. yes homosexuality is forbiden in islam, but only Allah swt is the one to judge us. in the eyes of our lord we are equal. we are all his creations. the only person you are to judge is the person you see when looking in a mirror. you know it is wrong to judge someone based on colour, sex, gender, ethnicity etc. so why you all judging people based on if theyre gay or not?

  • @boofing2k20 Allah means god in Arabic. If you say it a different way, it doesn't change what it is. Tomato tomato, potato potato. Same thing. We believe in the same thing whether you like it or not.

  • @MrIhateislam100 From your username, I can see you have a creepy obsession with Islam. Lol.

  • @bastardfingers Lol, spiritual contact, yeah right. God's not interested in having any contact with scum racist bastards like you UNLESS he's trying to rid you from you douchbagary-ness.

  • why do they have subtitles i can understand what they saying, If you do too thumbs me up.

  • this is part of the western culture invasion on the arab/islamic world...the decadence is easily in this way to brainwash ppl. There is a reason why European/Americans pay premium fees to get broadcast. Whereas the arab world have free world broadcast. brainwash the motherfucking ppl. God protect us from the degenrates
