A "V Mask" was placed on the historic monument of "Russell A. Alger, Soldier, Statesman, Citizen, 1836 to 1907" on the east side of Grand Circus Park across from the Detroit Opera House. The mask was made famous by the book, "V For Vendetta," which was later made into a movie of the same name. In the book, the protagonist fights a totalitarian government. He wears the mask to conceal his identity and because he understands the importance of theater.
