Views of the beautiful Romanian Orthodox Monastery of Sucevita, one of the famous Painted Monasteries of Bucovina. Sucevita has some of the best preserved frescoes, including the Famous 'Ladder of Virtue'. Photos taken by me during our trip to Romania in May, 2006.

  • i was there....5 years ago! a very nice place

  • Thanks for posting this video. It brings back memories from my visit there in the summer of 1973!

  • Oh my gosh! We were in Romania at the same time as you (Moorestown Madrigal Singers from Moorestown, NJ), travelled on the same planes and everything, finishing up in Neptun on the Black Sea at the end. I can't remember the names of any of the kids from your group except for one sweet guy named Count Laws or something like that. We visited this monastery as well, in fact, was just looking at the photos of it from 1973 this morning. I remember how much i loved the frescos.

  • Beautyful, thanks Mikolibaba! Those frescs should be renovated, to give them the original shine, but anyway it looks just great.

Movilesti were always respected in Poland and had verry close ties to it, but i didn`t knowed that they were such art mecenates in Moldova.

  • Beautiful video ! Thank you !

  • Great video!

    Respect for Romanian art&culture!

    Peace&wisdom for WorldWide Romanians!

  • I was in a high school choir (A Cappella of Battle Creek, MI)...we were invited to tour Romania as "Ambassadors of Friendship" circa summer of 1973...we took a side trip up to these two monasteries...I know it was this one because one of the sides of the building had "Jacobs Ladder" (which you can see @ 00.58...) they had graffiti etched into some of the art w/ dates around 1600's..we asked our tour guide why anyone would carve into the art, and they said that it was a form of immortality...

  • I was at this monastery.
