a state lawmaker is being criticized tonight for a statement she made that involved the feds, native american treaties, and cocaine. take a listen... "the federal government is like somebody with a bad cocaine habit, we have to keep feeding their habit, and we the taxpayers of the state of new mexico, are

10:03 pm being held responsible for the federal government's actions over building that dam up there." that's republican representative candy ezzell talking to the group "progress now new mexico" about the feds responsibility to honor indian water rights. from the soundbite - it seems pretty clear she's implying that the federal government has the cocaine habit. but check out the headline on this press release from progress now new mexico: it says - "nm state rep says indians are on cocaine" that's a pretty big mischaracterizat ion. we pointed that out to progress now new mexico - and a spokesperson agreed it gave the wrong impression. he said he'd write up a press release with a corrected headline.
