A Microsoft Train Simulator test using diesel stock on long closed lines. 219 and a 3-piece push-pull Mark 3 set traverse the Castleisland branch from Gortatlea Junction in Kerry. Entirely fictional as the line has been gone for over 20 years and this locomotive was only introduced in 1995.

The route is the Kerry Railways route (available on UKTS) while the rolling stock is a mixture of Irish Enterprise stock and personally repainted stock. The line speed is only 40mph so excuse the slow journey time.

  • I'm afraid the detail of the station yard are not accurate.Old photos will show that trucks could off load the goods wagons from between the tracks.Cattle were loaded from the Killarney road side.Otherwise very interesting.

  • @michaelnessan Unfortunately the route was never finished, There's a lot of detail missing in Killarney for example, and the North Kerry line is little more than platforms. The developer abandoned it to begin the RailWorks Dublin-Cork project.

  • This is Microsoft Train Simulator, although heavily modified from the original version by using third party addons, some free and others paid.

It's considered by many to be the best simulator due to the large amount of third party content, you're not just stuck to the MS bundled routes and trains. I use it because of the larger number of Irish trains available. Rail Simulator/RailWorks is a much more modern and accurate simulator but has less content available for it.

  • @stumpy6194 It's the Enhanced Track Audio package from railwaves. It's not free, costs £4.50, but well worth it compared to the stock sounds.

  • what is the name of the simulator your using and where did you download the addons, there is loads of train sims but which one is the best???
