Title and End Credits from the brilliant BBC production Smiley's People, starring Sir Alec Guinness as John le Carré's legendary spymaster George Smiley. For Curd Jürgens, this was the last thing he filmed before he passed away. And watch the End Credits for the name of an actor who had one of his first ever screen appearances in the tiny part of the Savoy Hotel's Head Porter Brownlow ...
Music by Patrick Gowers, who also wrote the soundtrack for Jeremy Brett's Holmes series.

the book was great and the tv series was just as good [a rare event]. does anyone know where the music for the theme came from or was it written especially for this series. it's the most hauntingly beautiful music i have ever heard and has been my favorite peice for years . thank you thespillian for posting it.
The music was witten by Patrick Gowers, who also scored the Sherlock Holmes series wirh Jeremy Brett.. There was a Soundtrack LP of it with some liner notes in 1982 (I just have it here) - I have no idea if it's available on CD, although I doubt so ...
Bought a used copy today; I used to do a fair copy of Sir. A. saying ... 'Yes, shot in the face... at - extremely - close - range ...' etc. Wish someone would post at least the opening scenes.... Best, GFT
It's such an excellent TV production. I love that scene when he is looking for the cigarette pack in the park - nobody today would dare to film a scene that lenght without music and with almost nothing happening, apart from someone stirring up the ground with the end of his umbrella ...
Thank you for this video response to the Tinker, Tailor end credits video. For me, the top five greatest dramatic (i.e. actors working from a script of some kind) television programs ever created are: Smiley's People; Tinker, Tailor; I, Claudius; The Sopranos; The Wire. Alec Guiness as George Smiley in Smiley's People and in Tinker, Tailor would certainly be in my Top 5 favorite television acting performances. Notice I say "favorite" rather than "greatest" when it comes to the acting.
I won't dare to so such a listing for myself. Funnily, I don't even like Guinness as an actor that much, but he was brilliant, damn perfect as Smiley. And what a marvellous supporting cast in both productions!
Well, my lists are all a bit tongue-in-cheek but sincere (if that is possible) as I know that I am no great critic. I do like the idea of being able to recommend one thing over another thing--and have some justification for it.
