WARNING: FOR SOME REASON THE PATCH ONLY SEEMS TO WORK ON NEMU64, DON'T BOTHER TRYING THIS OUT IN PJ64.

Improved version of this hack, shown a few months ago. It gives you control over a number of runtime parameters, the coolest being the ability to control any object you want using the second controller analog stick. There's a "gravity" hack that will make even objects like doors or toad controllable.

Download PPF patch (for extended ROM) @ http://sites.google.com/site/messiaen64/themissingstars/download/SM64debug.pp...

The patch is very big since it aligns all data in the ROM to 64-bit boundaries so it can work on a real Nintendo 64. If someone can test this on a real console, please post a video response.

How to use it:

Controller 1:
- Hold L + D-left / D-right to change between menu pages.
- Hold L + D-Up to attach to the nearest object while in the Obj page. To change the object you are controlling, just get near it and press L + D-Up again. This only works in the correct menu page (OBJ info).
- D-up and D-down to navigate menus.
- D-left and D-right to change values.
- A few options (such as "Play", "Spawn") will require you to press L to activate while selecting it.

Controller 2 (only used in the OBJ info menupages)
- Analog stick: controls attached object
- L / R: remove / enable text`
- B: Enable/disable "gravity" hack so that a few objects can be properly controlled
- Button Z: Toggle camera between Mario/attached object.

This hack is VERY prone to crash, especially when entering/exiting levels. Pong of Death is an easter egg, it should be easy to find how to activate it.

Also, finally grabbed those missing letters from the Japanese version of the ROM.

EXTENDED MEMORY IS USED, SO REMEMBER TO ENABLE IT ON YOUR EMULATOR.

  • Wow I remember accidentally finding this debug menu when I was using the game shark to search for cool game stuff like mario with big shoes or huge fists. I didn't really know what to do with it at the time & never really went back to look and test any of it out much. I miss the old genies, xploders, game sharks... not just for cheating, but for eploration! =-)

  • @6ixty4our Actually, this is not in the game. This custom menu has been programmed from scratch and hacked into the game.

  • The music portion on this hack PROVES that the N64's music files are all Midis.

  • @techguy348 No, it doesn't.

  • @frauber well still not exactly sure what this is. But it sure looks very similar to what I found years ago with the old game shark. can't remember what it was about but do think I remember it even said something about debug setup or something. wish I could remember better. but was a long time ago.

  • @lobost12 Lolwut

  • waiting for it to get to the gameplay and all of the sudden he starts playing pong and i was like WTF?

  • Wow. This is the kind of thing geeks like me dream of finding left in a game. That'd be about the only thing that would make this better, is if Nintendo had made it. :p

  • i already have pj64 and downloaded nemu64 now patching

  • @frauber does this work in 1964?

  • @frauber You are right. I thought it WAS all midis, but it is a format SIMILAR to midi. Btw, can you reverse your MIDI2m64 tool? I would like to convert a m64 file to a midi. I think people can make a very accurate midi interpretation of Super Mario 64.
