I run a commercial recording studio, and I often tell clients "Look if I use all the cool digital stuff like Autotune etc to tweak your voice, it will get to the point where if you sing it live, people won't know it's you".

It's a great song and he's a great singer, but the recording was so over-processed that you are now making the comment you did.
