This is the unaired pilot episode of Rugrats that Klasky/Csupo showed to Nick in early 1990. The voice actress (Tami Holbrook) for Tommy is different than in the main series (Elizabeth Daily). Parts of it were used as bumpers throughout the Golden Age of Nickelodeon and a few scenes were partly reused, however it was never aired in its full state as presented in this video.

This video falls under Fair Use 17 U.S.C. § 107 for educational purposes.

17 U.S.C. § 107

Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 17 U.S.C. § 106 and 17 U.S.C. § 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include: the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes; the nature of the copyrighted work; the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors.

  • Oh wow...I used to watch Rugrats all the time as a kid, I can't believe I'm only just seeing this ep...The animation kinda creeps me out :S

  • haha it's funny how Tommy's voice sounds like Chihiro from Spirited away^^

  • @nacholiibr3 right?! stupid teenage crap now haha

  • Watching this whole show right now on pollysteaming(dot)com, you guys should check it out! Its free!

  • @m80thebrawler1 haha! Yeah I actually got this wrong. He didn't create the series. He only animated this (the pilot) and the opening for the Rugrats. I also think some of the background music is similar to Aeon Flux, so maybe the same music producer? Yeah it would have been cool if he did create Rugrats though. I just would love to have seen him animate the whole series cause this looks awesome.

  • @elm1230 wow blow my mind.. aeon flux was 100% adult..he made a complete 180

  • @Homschool55 It's a pilot. Pilots are used to sell the show to a television network. Kinda like a preview or test so the network knows what it's getting.

  • @xxbassxxMakar I believe his voice actor from the main series was actually a woman. A lot of young boys in cartoons are voiced by women. For instance Bart Simpsons voice actor is Nancy Cartwright.

  • This pilot.is rugrats on acid and tommy sounds like a girl lol.
