I love listening to Peary's voice as well (and storytelling style). Listened to this record over and over as a kid. Hearing it again was a delight !

Dave here. I was in grade school when we listened to Harold Peary as the Great Gildersleeve. Really enjoyed his portrayal. I was disappointed when Willard Waterman took his place. Peary's voice had a cheerful lilt that suggested what I assume reflected his joy in living. I've been reminded of his characterization of the weary man settling down in his easy-chair, now that I've become creaky (crikey!) over the years (71). "A-a-a-a-ah!"

I enjoy Gildersleeve. He did many cameo appearances in sitcoms. He was well known in the old time radio comedies too.One of my faves with him was in Malibu Bikini Shop as the estate lawyer. Thanks, this is classic!
