First video taken with new Samsung video recorder. Also my first video uploaded to You Tube. A quick video of my 1978 Gibson "The Paul" guitar. I purchased this new on 12Dec1978, all original except for new volume and tone controls.

  • Sonic, we must be the same age, graduated in 78. My friend had one of these in our HS band...loved playing his guitar vs. my 64 strat. Just bought a 78, all original from GC used. I'ts everything I remembered about it. Love the feel, the look and the sound. Can't walk past it without picking it up. Something really solid feeling about this guitar, even the pewter like tuners. Dig it.

  • @The67turbo - Yes, I also graduated in '78 and I agree with you on all good points. I have mine on a stand in my computer room. I pick it up and strum a few chords, every morning for about 15 minutes before leaving the house for work.

  • Thanks for the video. Bought a "The Paul" in '79 as a senior in high school. Never should have sold it. Recently acquired one that I'm fixing up. You mentioned the upgraded electronics from RS Guitarworks. Did you buy just the pots, or one of the upgrade kits? If so, which version? vintage, vintage/modern, or modern? I'm trying to decide. Thanks!

  • @markrdixon1

I already had PIO caps, new switch and output jack, so I just got their "super" volume pots and CTS tone pots. I first had them wired "50's style" but have since gone back to modern and also replaced the T-top pickups with Guitar force "Rebel II's". I still have all of the original parts. Thanks for posting comment.

  • my neck has a fat crack on it, happend when i was re stringing, i was fuckin pissed obviously the walnut aint that strong. but this guitar wails man. my pickups arent black there tan, havent found a the same guitar with the same pickups yet

  • @Pasillas916

My Paul is starting to devolp a small very thin crack along the back of the neck. Nothing major yet, but will have to have a tech look at it later. I hope you get yours fixed.

  • Jack Black ?!! LOL

  • Dont change those pickups. Those are the original "dirty fingers" p/u's - they arent t-tops - at least not on my 81 the paul. And I didnt notice the "T" on yours either. Theyre higher output than t-tops.

  • @Pasillas916 Because your pickups are not stock.

  • The pick ups sell for 300.00 and up per set these days.
