The Doro Sextet performs the string sextet ouverture from the opera "Capriccio" by Richard Strauss. This recording was made on 21/07/2007 at the Orlando Festival in Kerkrade (the Netherlands). The players are Ying Wei Nio and Richard van Calcar (violins), Jeroen Terstegge and Kristofer G. Skaug (violas), Hylke van Lingen and Anna Offermans (celli). The Doro ensemble consists of (ex-)members of the Krashna Musika university Orchestra in Delft.

  • um well not quite at the level of the group who played this at the curtis institute, haha, but you look like a fun bunch, and to you thats all that should matter. btw, is this music hard to come by?

  • Hi - the music is proverbially but also literally everywhere :-). It's almost more difficult to find a serious sheet music shop that _doesn't_ have this one. The parts are written for orchestra seating (designed for performance in the pits of an opera stage) so the violins, viola's and celli are thought to be sharing the same music stand.

  • You can't play this music. Stop! Take the Sevcik method again in your hands and study!

  • Yeah, but... apart from it being out of tune, out of step and musically deficient, we thought this was actually one of our better moments! And remember, someone has got to produce the mediocre material against which others can really shine! Oh, and if you have any suggestions as to which music we _could_ play, I'm all ears! Mr. Sevcik apparently ran out of time to write string sextets... :-)

  • Awful execution...lack of tunigng....time...you need to practice more on your instruments before playng such music!!

  • hahaha! Thanks for the priceless feedback. I'd love to be able to give you your money back, unfortunately we didn't think of asking money in the first place :-). That's the problem with us amateurs, we have a miserable lack of respect for the musical sensitivities of others :-).

  • I am not a string player, so I can't criticize you technically. But I feel for it musically, and that's what matters. Besides, even if all the other statements are true, that doesn't give any reason not to share it. Listening with an open ear to all levels of musicians is a healthy habit, even if sometimes painful. Being a piano player, I can hardly hear the tuning issue. Glad you posted!

  • @BrahmsDigger lol i dunno if theyre a 'happy bunch' but yeah they do OK, I wonder if they did a rendition now would it be more polished, or maybe they would loose some of the spontaneity.. we can only guess

  • lol. that's bad :D

  • I luv this sextet , good effort lads!!

  • Oh my, what a harsh reactions from mr. moodytn! Tis true there are a (very) few off-key notes, but the sound and musicality are heart-warming. Clearly you will not be intimidated by such negativity, you are indeed one happy bunch, with guts and heart to play music, together. Respect!
