When I play an F major melody at frets 5-8 I use one finger (including pinky) - one fret.
Less "jumpy". More convenient. No need for playing two different consecutive tones
on the same string with the same left hand finger.

Why don't you use your left hand pinky?

@musikintresserad only when i need to stretch, down on the lower register where the fretas are further apart, up higher the frets are closer together an there is no need in fact it is inefficient.. In this piece there is no stetch that need my pinky.
I use it all the time when i'm sweep icking arpeggios, or for 5+ fret stretches.
