Its water over the dam..... Norris Dam

Here is the info I have on the Norris Dam spills. In 2003 and 2004 there were minor spills. I think these lasted a day or less. The current spill is what is called a "heavy" water spill. It started on Monday 5/11 and is scheduled to last through Friday 5/15 with a possibility of running through the weekend.

The last heavy water spill was in 1998. It spilled 25,000 cubic feet per second for 15 days.

Another question we get a lot of questions about is how long did it take the lake to fill. The dam was finished and the gates closed in March 1936. The lake reached full pool in Jan 1937.

It's a rare occurrence anymore. But I remember well when I was little, I saw the dam release the spill water. I am 22 now and I seriously remember it back then...it use to be common.

I was there when I was about 13 and the guard came outside and let us go inside, into the tube that runs from end to end, I think he said we were 3-6' feet from the water.
