At Powerboat Training UK over the years on a variety of powerboat and motor cruising courses we have practiced helicopter transfers in many craft and with a variety of helicopters. This transfer was between a 12m RIB/RHIB and a Westland Lynx of the Dutch Navy. Many lifts between RIBs and helicopters are static transfers due to the dangers for the winchman of a moving transfer with a small target but with suitably trained Drivers moving transfers are preferred by the helicopter as it is safer for the helicopter to be moving thus creating lift.
