Is the Basstuba playing a little sharp or do they tune 5ths a particular way?

I still prefer Sir Thomas Beecham in a very early stereo recording 1960.

If you like this version, I would strongly recommend you buying the DVD with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra playing under direction of Mariss Jansons.

the piece was written for the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, because Strauss really liked their sound when he heard them play
