Here is the video for my new LCARS security system which which uses bluetooth to communicate with the LCARS terminal(PC). It also uses a PIR motion sensor to detect movement within 20ft of the sensor. Once the PIR sensor has calibrated (20 seconds) then use the push buttons to select the location of the PIR sensor and then connect the hardware to the LCARS terminal(PC) using bluetooth. Once connected the system can be triggered, armed/disarmed from the terminal or the hardware itself. When the system is triggered the terminal will display, on a deck map, the location of the intruder. The hardware is a PIC 16F873 microcontroller, programmed in BASIC and the software was programmed uses both Adobe Flash and Visual Basics. Enjoy!!!

  • I just got a huge boner from watching that! Awesome design dude! Any chance on getting plans for it and the program itself?

  • Glad u like it! I'll have a look for the designs but im sure where they are.

  • Yes, it is possible. I'm update the software at the moment and i have used speech recongition already in my Knight Rider projects. It may take some time at the moment as I have LOADS of college work to do. I will also add this feature to my complete LCARS system which I have built in Flash and it is fully interactive. I am looking at adding speech recongition to the complete LCARS system.

  • Can you make an instructable about this? That would be so awesome! (i'm gonna move soon and I'd loooove to have a cool alarm system like this :P) + would it be possible to unlock via bluetooth contact with my android phone? That would be suuuuper cool, thanks!

  • if you could combine it with something like this /watch?v=sP4n0p7Z4jA it would be spectacular

  • is the soft ware compatible with an ipad and can you give me the soft ware and a list of the parts that ill need to build your system?

  • Can I buy it Its fantastic!

  • Off topic: Wow...Elite Force II theme, brings back memories.

On topic: Excellent project, well done !

I have an idea to use these nifty little things for so I was doing some research and came across your video via Adafruit.

Do you happen to know what the range is ? The only number I can find is 20 feet. Smaller than I'd hoped, but I think that will do.

I don't think there are any longer range PIR's for hobbyists though. =\

  • can you post up some of the code? i am having trouble trying to get my PIR sensor to recalibrate after i was triggered.

I can let it calibrate when the circuit is first connected to power. It waits till there is motion - but then it thinks that there is still motion there even though there isn't do i have to cut power to the PIR sensor then reset the power on for it to recalibrate?

It's so frustrating trying to get it to work, and no one seems to have this problem.

  • @2shaneHunter this is cool u know the chips in such mashines will change a lot and be more colorful and super shiny and u may see tho it too like glass u know wat i mean

  • Very nice man, do you have a site with your software available or some ideas on how to build a replica?

  • That is so cool. I would be setting off the alarm all day just to keep playing with it lol. Well done!

  • Wow that is cool how can I get this.
